American Food

Even though it’s a Bavarian town, there is still great American food to be found.

Another place we like is Sandy’s Waffle and Dinner Haus. It’s right across the street from the sledding hill and the gazebo. Get a window seat to do some people watching and read the local Leavenworth Echo newspaper while enjoying their Bavarian waffles with strawberries and their hash browns. Sandy’s is only open for breakfast and lunch.

The Soup Cellar is a quaint little place with kind of a pub atmosphere but much brighter. The soups, chili and bread bowls are delicious and they have a nice salad bar. A fun part of going to the Soup Cellar is seeing their money wall. They have a tradition of people putting a message on a dollar, or peso, or pound and tacking it to the wall. The walls are covered with thousands of bills, each with a message. There are declarations of love and best wishes to friends and family. It’s fun to walk around and look at some of the interesting messages.

One of our favorites is the 59er Diner in Cashmere. They had a restaurant in Lake Wenatchee that burned down and is currently being rebuilt. We can’t wait for it to open up again.

We haven’t been to the Big Y Café in Peshastin yet, but we’ve heard from the locals that it is one of their favorite places to eat. It looks like a classic American diner. We need to go there the next time we’re in town.
