The Northwest has a love affair with coffee. Just a pot of coffee sitting on a burner all day isn't enough any more. Well, there are plenty of places to get a nice cuppa Joe.
The Via Dolce Gelateria has a great coffee bar that fills Via Dolce with the rich brewed aroma of espresso. Sit down with a cold, rich gelato or sorbetto in a dozen or more different flavors and a hot cup of espresso on a bright spring day and people watch, because every seat is a window seat.
Right next door to A Book for All Seasons is a Starbucks, for those who just can't be without their Venti Skinny Carmel Macchiato. Grab a book and sit in Starbucks with your drink while you warm up from the snow. There is also a Starbucks in the Safeway on Highway 2.
Alpine Coffee Roasters is Leavenworth's only hometown coffee roaster. You can find their coffee featured at many local restaurants, hotels and grocery stores. They also have a retail store on Highway 2. A large variety of coffees, and specialty and holiday coffees is available.
While it's not in Leavenworth, I do want to mention another coffee importer and roaster, Dominion Trading. They market premium Ethiopian coffee in a direct partnership with impoverished farmers in Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia, the heart of the Rift Valley. They return some of the profits back to the growers, and also support several health, finance, and education initiatives in Ethiopia. Profits are also used to support evangelism in the region through local Ethopian churches. Non-profits are encouraged to contact them for information on how the coffee can be used as a fundraiser for their organization.
