German Food in Leavenworth, WA

German Food

Herzliche Wilkommen! There's no better way to enjoy the Bavarian atmosphere of Leavenworth, Washington than to indulge in delicious German food. We love everything about Leavenworth, the sights, the sounds, the tastes and the scent of sauerkraut in the air! We rarely eat sauerkraut at home, but once we step foot in Leavenworth it's hard to imagine a meal without it.

One of our favorite Bavarian restaurants is Andreas Keller. It's located in a lower level on Front Street. The atmosphere is cozy with the warm wood decor. The food is delicious. We enjoy the sausage sampler. The Bavarian soft pretzel is fresh baked and so good. The stone ground mustard served with at each meal is also available to purchase and enjoy at home. Andreas Keller offers a wide selection of German beers to go with the authentic German sausages.

When dusk falls and we're ready for supper our craving for more good German food carries us up the stairs to Café Christa. Located on the corner of Front and 8th, the Café offers several windowside tables. We enjoy sitting at a seat overlooking the Gazebo of the City Park. In the winter the park is gloriously lit and one evening we got to watch several young people practice their juggling skills with lit torches! But, back to the food. My favorite is Jaeger Schnitzel, a tender pork cutlet in mushroom gravy. It's served with housemade spaetzel and a red cabbage side dish. So yummy!

Nearly every restaurant in town has a selection of German specialties on its menu. Sure, you'll find pizza on the menu at Baren Haus, but you'll also find delicious German sausages with housemade German potato salad.

Café Mozart is romantic, European style dining at its best. You'll find choice cutlets prepared in a variety of styles. And here you'll be able to start your meal with a delicious cheese fondue.

If you're looking for a boisterous good time, King Ludwig's offers live music and a dance floor on the weekends and a wide variety of unique German specialties, including Schweinshax'n (rotisserie broiled pork hock.) They also offer fantastic family sized Bavarian platters for 4 or 6 diners, and can accommodate large groups.
